Flambeau and Chippewa Rivers

The North Fork of the Flambeau River flows into the Chippewa River about halfway down its course.

I started at the headwaters of the North Fork of the Flambeau, at the Turtle Dam Flowage and finished at the conflunce of the Chippewa River with the Mississippi River near Pepin, WI.

  • Meet these two pontoons just outside Ladysmith. They knew a good friend, Tom Mestelle, who is from Ladysmith and took over the football program in Superior when I retired.

  • I told Tom Mestelle I'd take a picture of where his parents home once stood. It was leveled by a tornado not long ago and now is a vacant lot.
    Tom's mother has passed on, but she used to swim across the river and back every day. Unbelievably, there was someone swimming across at that very spot when I arrived.
